Overview
Gumley House Convent School (“GHC”) in Hounslow, London approached FTL Secure Solutions for an initial discussion on the design and installation of a new CCTV system to ensure the continued health and safety of their pupils and faculty.
The incumbent system was based on legacy analogue hardware and no longer fit for purpose, prompting the need to upgrade to the latest IP based solution.
GHC faced a number of challenges they sought to address, primarily:
• Lack of CCTV coverage in areas where pupils gathered.
• Lack of CCTV coverage at exit and entrance points.
• The quality of CCTV images was poor and lacked clarity.
• The maintenance costs were increasing as the system aged.
The Solution
Following consultation meetings and surveys, FTLSS designed a 30 camera HD IP CCTV network. The system provided the school with a 5-fold improvement on previous resolution, significantly increased coverage throughout the campus, excellent performance in low-light conditions and a guarantee/ warranty and maintenance agreement that ensured operational expenditure on the CCTV decreased. Both staff and pupils feel more safe and secure.
The installation included all network cabling and POE switching.
Following the success of the initial project, “GHC” approached FTLSS to design a networked access control system.
Prior to this, once through the external gates a member of the public would have free access to the school. This
highlighted a major safeguarding concern and a high risk.
Following consultation meetings and surveys, FTLSS designed a 25 door networked IP Paxton access control system
providing a central operator with complete control over the site. By request, FTLSS commissioned the system to include automatic door lock/unlock schedules and various access groups for different members of staff and visitors.
Recently, FTLSS has now also been appointed as the maintenance provider on the entire intruder alarm system, with a view to bringing this up to NSI standards.
The Benefit
The new CCTV system enables Gumley House Convent School to provide a safe and secure environment for staff and pupils alike. The system has helped to significantly improve safeguarding on-site. The new CCTV system was designed to be used by non-security professionals, ensuring that staff and support staff can easily navigate their way around the Video Management System.
The Feedback
“ FTLSS have provided us with excellent service from pre sales through installation and post install bug fixes (even when it was our fault). Their technical skills and focus on details makes us feel confident in the systems installed in our school. This has allowed us to use them throughout our school on a variety of projects and are confident we have the right solutions in place to offer a safe learning environment for our students and staff.”
